Slot Captions
Hard-set words dropping into a line that was already laid out, in Helvetica Medium, with no box and no shadow.
What Slot Captions does to your footage
This is the caption system on its own, with nothing else added. The whole phrase is measured and placed before a single word of it is visible. Then each word hard-sets into its slot at the moment you say it. Nothing reflows and nothing re-centres. The line sits at chest height under your chin and stays there for the whole shot.
- Helvetica Neue Medium, pure white, no plate, no stroke, no shadow, no glow.
- Words snap into place. There is no fade and no exit animation anywhere.
- A phrase is replaced by the next one in a single frame, with no blank frame between.
- Four levels of emphasis above the base line, including a two-line stack and a verdict word in italic.
- One colour that is not white: a slow ramp to red, saved for the negative line.
- Soft ticks on the seams and silence when the picture returns to you.
A real cut in this style
This clip was edited by Clypmint in the Slot Captions style. It is not a mockup.
What footage suits Slot Captions
- Any vertical clip that just needs captions that look professional.
- The cheapest and fastest style to run.
- Short clips from 10 seconds to 3 minutes.
What Slot Captions will not do
Vertical only. It is a caption system, so it adds no cards, no cutaways, and no graphics.
How to edit a video in the Slot Captions style
- Upload your footage. Drop in the recording you already made. Clypmint transcribes it and finds where the usable takes are.
- Pick Slot Captions. Choose Slot Captions from the style picker. Its whole editing grammar comes with it.
- Let it cut. Clypmint cuts the dead air, sets the captions the way Slot Captions sets them, and places that style's graphics on the beats where they belong.
- Change it in a sentence. Tell the Director what to change. It edits the timeline you already have rather than starting over.
- Export it. Download the finished file. On a paid plan there is no mark on it.
How long should my footage be?
Slot Captions is built for footage between 10 seconds and 3 minutes. Shorter than that and the style has no room to put its devices anywhere. Longer than that and it runs out of vocabulary before your recording ends. Your plan also sets the longest single file you can upload, and that limit is listed on the pricing page.
What shape of video does it make?
Slot Captions is vertical, for TikTok, Reels, and Shorts. It has no version in another shape.
